Kathleen Shannon Finn receives "Lifetime Achievement Award" from American Cheese Society.

We are proud to announce that our associate, our friend, our "Columbus Family" member, Kathleen Shannon Finn, was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the American Cheese Society in August 2009. Kathleen's consummate professionalism and leadership coupled with her passion, her dedication and boundless enthusiasm for all things 'Cheese', has been an inspiration to virtually everyone she comes in contact with. This prestigious award is testimony to this remarkable woman and her three decades of devotion and accomplishment within the upscale food industry.

On behalf of everyone here at Columbus, we are so grateful to you for differentiating the retailers that we serve, for helping delight the consumer, and for helping make Columbus the Industry Benchmark for cheese quality, selection, and education. Columbus Honored by StopWaste

Columbus Foods, LLC is pleased to announce that it has been honored by StopWaste.Org and the StopWaste Business Partnership with the Business Efficiency Award.

These awards, honoring environmentally responsible companies, are presented annually to a handful of businesses that are becoming more efficient with their use of materials or preventing waste and protecting the environment.

Past winners of this prestigious award include American Licorice, Amtrak, Clif Bar & Company, Mills College, Pacific Gas and Electric and the University of California at Berkeley.

Along with Columbus, this year’s winners included Bay-Area businesses, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Fremont Marriott Silicon Valley, Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, Pleasanton Corporate Commons, Walters & Wolf, and
Whole Foods Market.

“Environmental responsibility should be incorporated into every successful business model” says Jeffrey Newman, Chief Operating Officer at Columbus Foods, LLC. “We believe that as our business grows, so too should our generosity to our global community and this is just one way to give back. We are proud and humbled to receive this award
from StopWaste.”

As part of their commitment to environmental stewardship, Columbus continuously explores materials and work methods that improve sustainability and protect the environment. Among Columbus’ environmental initiatives is its
co-mingled recycling and food composting program to divert more than 100 tons per year to the landfill.

A committee of StopWaste Partnership representatives evaluated all participants to determine the top performing companies for their 2008 Business Efficiency Awards.

A GREENer Columbus!

 

Earlier this year, Columbus Foods' Specialty Products Division met with Alameda County's StopWaste Partnership to help us become a more environmentally friendly company. During this process, we formed an internal "Green Team" and with help from StopWaste Partnership, we analyzed all our business practices and made changes to reduce our carbon footprint.

Through the efforts of our Green Team along with the dedication and teamwork of all our employees, we are very proud to announce that StopWaste has honored us with their 2008 Business Efficiency Award!

Retalix has introduced their PowerNet for Vendors and Columbus Distributing is one of the first of their customers to implement it!

This is an add-on module to the Retalix PowerNet system which will allow our vendors to

  • View open POs
  • View PO History
  • View current stock on hand and historical sales
  • Create item usage and customer reports

Last night, Italian Heritage Night presented by Columbus Salame was a huge success at the San Francisco Giants Game!  There were many activities and announcements centered around Columbus Salame all night long. 

  • Fans were bombarded with 15,000 mini sandwiches as they entered the gates
  • 100+ fans in one  “Lucky Section” all received an 8oz wrapped salame
  • Close to 1200 Italian Night ticket holders received an Italian themed Columbus /Giants t-shirt
  • Italian Night ticket holders received a keepsake Columbus themed Polaroid picture of their party (some even mentioned to us that their picture from last years event is still on their fridge!)
  • Three lucky Italian Night ticket holders competed in a “Columbus Salame Sandwich Eating Contest” during the middle of the 6th inning which was shown on the Big Screen
  • The four Giants Broadcasters (2 radio and 2 TV) all received a hand delivered wrapped salame bat from all of us at Columbus
